The men and women of the Salisbury Mills Fire
Department which is comprised of the Mountain Lodge Park Fire Company and the
Salisbury Mills Fire Company serves the community on a 24/7/365 basis, and is
100% volunteer. The Salisbury Mills Fire District
covers about 35 square miles
and protects more than 15,000 residents.
The “Salisbury Mills Fire" portion of your
taxes that is billed through the Town Taxes, is used by the District to purchase
the following; fire trucks, firefighting equipment such as hoses, nozzles, power
saws, the jaws of life, radios, on-call pagers, forcible entry tools, self
contained breathing apparatus just to name a few and most importantly fire
protection clothing. Since the
Department is 100% volunteer, there is no
compensation paid to the members of the fire companies. Time spent driving to
the training facility for classes, responding to calls and personal expenses
incurred such as vehicle wear & tear, fuel, personal items such as emergency
responder lights and cell phones are paid for by the volunteers.
The individual Fire Companies, have the same
or larger overhead expenses as you the homeowner. Namely, building and grounds
maintenance, insurance, heat, phone, electricity and supplies, are some of the
expenses paid for by the individual companies, through the receipt of rent,
membership dues, hall rentals, donations and fund raising activities.
Your generous support
of these activities like the Annual Clam Bake, House-to-House Donation Requests,
Pancake or Spaghetti Dinners, Raffles and Christmas Tree Sales help defray the
annual costs of running your firehouse and allow us to continue community based
programs such as Wishes for Seniors and the Children’s Holiday Parties.
