"Salute to Firefighters Day"
Saturday, July 18th 2009

These photos were taken Saturday, July 18th at the "Salute to
Firefighters Day" which was held at Museum Village in Monroe. The event was
organized by Museum Village Education Director Jamie Wilms and hosted by the
South Blooming Grove Fire Dept.
The theme was to "Help us ring that bell". The old barn used
to house and store the antique trucks consisting of early 1800's hand pulled
pumpers and hose carts and late 1800 hundred horse drawn steam pumpers &
ladder trucks, as well as artifacts are in desperate need of repair. This
event was used as a fundraiser to bring attention to saving this valuable
piece of history in Orange County. Unfortunately, because of the beautiful
weather that day, there was a sparse crowd on hand to support this event.
The pictures attached show trucks from four area fire
companies that participated, South Blooming Grove, Monroe, Lakeside and Mt.
Lodge. Two privately owned antique fire apparatus were also on hand. Both
trucks were 1957 Ward La Frances pumpers, one of which was formally in
service at Pine Bush and the other was from Union Beach, New Jersey, as well
as Mt. Lodge's own 1955 Ford American La France pumper.
The group shot is of the Host Company - South Blooming Grove FD and their
members who participated. Both South Blooming Grove FD and the Monroe FD put
on a auto extraction demonstration.
The pictures below are that of the SBGFD demonstration.
Included in the pictures of some are the antique trucks stored in the three
bay barn and the barn itself with the bell tower above. I also enclosed a
picture of the fundraiser dunk-tank, which our own Mt. Lodge FF Chris
Vincent was trying to dunk one of the Directors of Museum Village. Ed
